The Ionia County Historical Society was formed in 1974 with the primary purpose of purchasing, restoring, and preserving the John C. Blanchard House, but the charter for the organization also included the broader mission to preserve artifacts and documents that represented the general history of the wider community. Today the organization is dedicated to sharing Ionia’s fascinating heritage with the general public, not only through the Victorian splendor of the Blanchard House, but also through our Museum (presently located within the Blanchard House), through programs for the general public, special presentations for schools and other organizations, plus souvenirs and publications that showcase Ionia’s unique stories.

Thank you for your interest.
There are many ways to support the ICHS!
Shopping through our Amazon “Smile” account is just one of many ways to help the Historical Society.
We’re always looking for volunteers to help with maintaining the Blanchard House, Museum, the property and the contents. If you have a particular area of interest or applicable skill, that would be very welcomed. We also look for help in hosting our guests, giving tours, providing refreshments, and supporting many other social activities at the Blanchard House.
We’re always looking for financial support, of course. First of all, become a card-carrying member, or a “Business Buddy.” You can make monetary donations, bequests, or donations of supplies, equipment, and materials (just ask us about our current needs).
We do accept donations of historic artifacts as well, but there are some rules to follow in that regard. For more informaiton on donating objects, photos, or documents, please contact us!
