The Ionia County Museum...

In 1993, Monroe MacPherson proposed the establishment of the Ionia County Museum to the members of the Historical Society. Unfortunately, he passed away before his generous efforts could bear fruit. However, the Museum Committee took up the dream and began the task of organizing the many artifacts in the care of the ICHS for public display.

The basement level of the Blanchard House became the home of the Ionia County Museum project, and many items have been put in place to convey the early years of Ionia's settlement and growth, the articacts of daily life in past generations, and dedicated displays of "Ionia In Uniform" and "Ionia Business and Industry." A guided tour of the museum can take up to an hour, but visitors can take in the displays at their own pace if they choose. School groups, Scout Troops, and Heritage Tour Groups often schedule special tours, too. Contact us if you're interested in setting up a special tour!

Although much has been done, there is much more to be done! Many valuable and fascinating items are still stored in boxes, bags, closets and drawers. In addition, the modest displays in pace need to be maintained, identified, and interpretted.

The Carriage House located on the Blanchard property has recently been cleaned and refurbished (thanks to dedicated volunteers). This space is nearly ready to be used for the storage and/or display of artifacts as well.
